neutral monism

neutral monism
The doctrine propounded by James in his essay ‘Does Consciousness Exist?’ (1904, reprinted in Essays in Radical Empiricism, 1912), that nature consists of one kind of primal stuff, in itself neither mental nor physical, but capable of mental and physical aspects or attributes. Russell espoused the doctrine for a short period.
