Al-Kindi, Yaqub ibn Ishaq

Al-Kindi, Yaqub ibn Ishaq
(d. after AD 866)
The earliest important Islamic philosopher, Al-Kindi began the process of assimilating Neoplatonic and Aristotelian thought into the Islamic world. He taught in Baghdad, and was responsible for translations of Aristotle and Plotinus . His own philosophy tended to allow the ascendancy of faith over reason, and he is generally thought to have been eclipsed by later thinkers such as Al-Farabi and Avicenna.
