forms of argument

forms of argument
Two arguments may be of the same form although their components concern different things. ‘All men are mortal, Socrates is a man, so Socrates is mortal’ has the same form as ‘All dogs are greedy, Sandy is a dog, so Sandy is greedy.’ Logic is the science of isolating these forms, and systematizing the ones that are valid and the ones that are not.
